The Constellation and Magico Room
T.H.E. Show featured the US debut of working Magico S5 loudspeakers ($28,900/pair), in an orange anodized aluminum finish. Notice the use of stacked ASC tube traps in the corners and the diffusion panels between the speakers. They helped the presentation vault to the top, though the speakers were really too large for the room. They are at least the size of the Q5s.
Alon Wolf choose to use Constellation’s new Performance “entry-level” line of components. These are the ones that Jonathan Valin has been going nuts over recently. He even even made them his new reference (this month). That is the 250 watt/channel Centaur power amplifier center stage ($24,000) between the S5s. Shown below is the Virgo linestage preamplifier ($19,000).
This is the Perseus phono stage ($19,000).
An identical box houses the Cygnus DAC and digital file player (also $19,000).
I’m not crazy about the Constellation aesthetics (or lack thereof), but the S5s sure didn’t seem to mind.
