The Daedalus Audio, Modwright Instruments, and VPI Room
Daedalus Audio joined forces with Modwright Instruments to show off its Athena loudspeakers($9950/pair). The cabinets are hand-made from solid hardwoods rather than MDF and veneer, and beautifully finished. I wasn’t as impressed with the sound as much as the craftmanship.
The analog source was VPI’s Classic I turntable ($2750).
The Modwright KWI 200 integrated amplifier ($4995) was fitted with its MM/high-output MC phono stage upgrade ($350).
Also on display was the Modwright LS 100 tube preamplifier, which also can be fitted with the same phonostage upgrade ($350) as well as a 192/24 asynchronus USB DAC card ($1150).
