Stunning New Price Point For Essence Electrostats

Essence announced today that its going to sell its line of electrostatic speakers, DACs, and Class D Power Amp exclusively online bypassing the traditional dealer channel. This is a change in strategy that eliminates the standard 50% dealer profit and brings the prices for Essence products down to disruptive new levels.

Whereas the electrostatic model 1200 entered the market 2 years ago at $3999 a pair with enough profit margin to allow for dealer participation at an attractive price when compared to other speakers in the same price range, Essence discovered that the traditional distribution channels that worked so well for many years became distorted after the Financial Crises of 2008-09.

With far fewer stores remaining, manufacturers made sure their dealers remained captive by offering free financing with 60 day payment terms, free flooring of demo equipment for 6 months, and high profit margins to pay for all of that. When an exciting new product comes along, the dealers can no longer respond to either consumer demand or their own instincts, they are “captives” of their vendors, bound to pitch only those brands to everybody who walks in the door, no matter what they are asking for.
