The KEF and McIntosh Room
KEF showed a bright orange pair of its Blade loudspeakers. It is apparently a popular color. Wilson Audio had an orange Alexia on static display outside its room. I thought the sound of the Blades was just okay. Show conditions.
KEF elected to show with McIntosh components, which I found a little odd. I would have thought the would have picked components from a U.K. company. The source was the McIntosh MCD500 SACD player ($6500).
The preamplifier was the McIntosh C48 ($5500). Note the built-in five-band equalizer, which could be handy for room correction if you have the outboard gear, like REW, to run frequency sweeps in your listening room.
The power amplifiers were a pair of McIntosh MC601 monoblocks ($12,995/pair), one of which is shown below.
