The Audio Research, dCS and Vandersteen Room

The Audio Alternative put together a well-balanced system from some big names in the industry. The speakers were the Vandersteen Quatro with M5-HP balanced crossovers ($12,645) driven by the new Audio Research Reference 75 power amplifier.

The Audio Research Reference 75 is housed in the same chassis as the Reference 150, but since there is more room available, two elegant looking meters have been added. Not only can you see how much power is being delivered, but you can set the tube bias from the front panel.

Ancillaries included the Audio Research Reference 5SE preamplifier ($12,995), PH8 phono stage ($6995), and DAC8 ($4995). dCS also supplied the Debussy USB DAC ($11,499) to go with a Bryston BDP-1 network music player ($2400 with remote). The turntable was a Linn LP12 with all kinds of upgrades and accessories and a Lyra Kleos cartridge (together, $30,750).
