Ayre Acoustics demonstrated its line of components with Vienna Acoustics ‘The Kiss’ loudspeakers ($15,000/pair). As you can tell, it was a georgeous day outside, sunny and bright. What were we doing going from room to room in a hotel?
That is the Ayre VX-R stereo amplifier ($14,950), first introduced earlier this year at CES, powering the speakers. It’s a pair of MX-R monoblocks ($18,000/pair) in a single chassis.
Here’s what it looks like from the bottom up - it’s dual mono in every sense except the chassis.
Vinyl playback was via a Ayre DPS (der Plattenspieler) turntable based upon a Bauer chassis and Ayre designed power supply with a dps tonearm (together, $12,750). Ayre’s own P-5xe phonostage ($2500) provided the necessary gain for the Benz LP S-Class cartridge ($5000).
The preamplifier was Ayre’s reference KX-R ($18,500).
The preamplifier shows that Ayre’s DX-5 universal Blu-ray player with USB input ($9950) was selected, but it was inaccessible for me to photograph.
This is Ayre’s latest product. It looks like the QB-9 USB DAC, but in fact is is the QA-9 ADC (analog to digital converter) ($TBA). Perfect for ripping your vinyl collection to digital format.
