The most interesting demo at RMAF 2011 was the new BSG Technolgies Signal Completion Stage ($4000) which, as I understand it, recovers phase information from recordings which would otherwise be masked, all in the analog domain. Here the setup was a computer feeding a DAC, which in turn was connected to the BSG unit, and then on to an Aesthetix Calypso linestage to a pair of Bel Canto monoblocks driving a pair of Vandersteen 2CE Signatures.
When the BSG unit was engaged, the soundstage expanded considerably both in width and depth. Unfortunately, the A-B comparison was not level matched, so I could not tell whether the soundstage was expanded because of the BSG technology or simply because of higher volume. It does seem like a promising development though; definitely something to keep an eye on.
