The Soundsmith room was all Soundsmith, with the exception of a pair of VPI turntables. Shown below are the Dragonfly ($1499)(outside) and Monarch ($1999) (inside) stand-mounted loudspeakers. I will be posting my review of them in the coming weeks.
This is the new VPI Classic 3 ($6000 with tonearm) which has been getting rave reviews. It sports Soundsmith’s new top-of-the-line Hyperion moving iron cartridge with a cactus needle cantilever ($7000). The inexpensive MMP3 phono stage ($399) provided the gain.
The venerable VPI HR-X turntable ($15,000 with tonearm). The cartridge on the JMW 12.7 tonearm also appears to be a Hyperion. The cartridge on the rear tonearm is a Soundsmith Strain Gauge cartridge.
The top component is a Strain Guage phono and line stage preamplifier ($7499-$14,999) and the bottom component is an HE-150 power amplifier ($6999).
