RMAF 2010 Coverage

It will be interesting to see the final attendance numbers. While the number of rooms and manufacturers represented was up, I think attendance was down.. Neither the halls nor the rooms were crowded. Plenty of seats were available for the lectures.

There were a significant number of exhibitors from Europe and the Far East, and many foreign attendees. From what I’ve seen, the U.S. manufacturers are trying to expand their presence abroad and foreign companies are seeking sales in the U.S. Too many products chasing too few buyers - globally.

There were really only a few new products shown, most notably the Magico Q5s. The show had a deja vu feel to it, with many of the same exhibitors showing the same products in the same rooms as last year. Still and all, given the demise of high-end dealers, it is virtually the only place where you can see and audition many of the products.

Four vendors brought thousand of LPs to sell. The traffic was steady. Young and old, men and women, all spent time looking through the bins.

There were many worthy contenders this year, but, in no particular order, these stood out to me:

The Abbington Music Research, Dr, Feickert Analogue and Rosso Fiorentino Room
The Analysis Audio, Arion Audio, EMM Labs, Sonus Veritas and VPI Room
The Argento Audio and Tidal Audio
The Audio Aero, Luxman and Vivid Room
The Audio Research and Vandersteen Audio Room
The Basis Audio, dCS, VTL and Wilson Audio Room
The darTZeel, Evolution Acoustics and Playback Designs Room
The Lansche, Lindemann and Sovereign Room
The Magico and Spectral Room
The Mark Levinson and Revel Room

If pressed, I’d have to say the Argento Audio and Tidal Audio Room was my favorite, as I have been smitten with Tidal’s loudspeakers.
