And now the piece de resistance - Ayre’s DX-5 universal player. It too is based on the Oppo, but unlike Lexicon and Theta who just replace the power supply, Ayre goes one step further, tosses out Oppo’s digital and analog board, and replaces it with the equivalent of the Ayre QB-9 USB DAC with its own linear power supply. MSRP is expected to be $8,000 - $10,000 with delivery by December. Finally a real audiophile Blu-ray player that also plays CDs, SACDs, DVDs, and DVD-As. Now, if we could only get Esoteric to come out with a similar model also replacing the plastic transport mechanism with one of their beautifully engineered metal ones.
