AVHub has posted Greg Borrowman’s review of the Gryphon Atilla integrated amplifier (£6,995.00) from Australian Hi-Fi Magazine. His conclusions:
Gryphon’s new Atilla allowed me to tick all the boxes on my personal amplifier buyer’s checklist. First and foremost, it’s powerful enough for all audiophile applications. Ditto its ability to deliver vanishingly low levels of distortion and noise. On the indefinable subjective auditioning criteria—staging, performance depth, image clarity, et al, it’s easily up there with the very best. And whereas many of the ‘up there with the best’ two-channel audiophile amps take a ‘sacks and ashes’ approach when it comes to providing features and facilities (not to mention remote controls), the Atilla comes up trumps in all these areas as well. Equally importantly, the Atilla has a very sophisticated amplifier protection circuit that at the same time manages to be completely noninvasive, so it has no effect on sound quality. This is great news in an age where with some high-priced audiophile amplifiers, your first warning that something may be amiss with your precious amp (or something connected to it) is the smell of smoke! Finally—for me at least—the Gryphon Atilla really looks the part, being classy without being ‘showy.’ Now all I need to do is be able to tick the right boxes on my bank’s loan application form!
