Here is another example of what I am talking about. Trenner & Friedl, an Austrian manufacturer, introduced the new Duke loudspeaker (€130,000/pair), which between you and me, is one of the ugliest monstrosities I have ever seen. They mount an Accuton super tweeter facing upward, and to achieve omni-directional horizontal dispersion, it fires into - get this - a Swarovski crystal cut in the golden ratio. I wonder if I could get them to substitute Waterford cut in the Lismore pattern to match our stemware? I wouldn’t buy this speaker on principal, even if it did sound good. Fortunately, I’m not faced with that dilemma. It was unexceptional. They had a smaller loudspeaker using the same configuration on a lower floor, so you’ll get to see another photo of this nonsense later. Jeff Rowland components are always long on looks. I’m glad to hear he is going back to A/B amplifier designs.
