When you walked into the Boulder Amplifier room, you were immediately taken aback by the sheer size and mass of these 1500 watt monoblocks. The photo doesn’t do them justice. I asked the rep what speakers needed 1500 watts to be driven adequately. He said none, really. He told me they simply had customers that wanted bigger amplifiers. The have already sold about 20 pairs and expect to sell another 20 pairs this year. These 400 pound behemoths run $175,000/pair. I am sure they sound exceptional like all of Boulder’s other gear, though they were on static display. If you buy a pair, make sure your floor can structurally support them and that your health insurance and premises liability insurance are fully paid up. Someone, perhaps you, could be injured installing them. Awesome.
At the other end of the spectrum are the diminutive Boulder 850 monoblocks. The were used to good effect to bi-amp the hefty Westlake Audio Tower 12s. Up on the shelf are the 2010 preamplifier and separate power supply (left) and 1021 disc player (right)
Entry level components include the 1012 preamplifier and the 865 integrated amplifier.
