VTL chose Pioneer’s TAD loudseakers to show off their tube designs. The sound was good. I know a lot of reviewer think this room was among the best, but it wasn’t at the top of my list. Pioneer, like Sony, does not have a line of components anywhere near the quality level of its TAD speakers, and they too are probably having a hard time figuring out how to market them in the U.S.
I was fascinated with the construction of VTL’s components. They don’t look quite as well laid out as some other components I saw, but they are certainly robust and look bullet-proof. Here is the VTL S-400 Reference amplifier.

Utilitarian is the word that springs to mind.
