CES 2010 Coverage

Avalon debuted their new top of the line Time loudspeakers. They refer to them as The Audio Chronometer. It must have something to do with pace, rhythm and timing! Coupled with the Jeff Rowland 300 Series monoblock amplifiers, and in the reasonably well treated room, the speakers were full-bodied, relaxed and had crystal-clear highs without being strident. Like all Avalon speakers, they are on the polite side - which I think is a good thing. Analytic speakers, while initially sounding detailed, quickly become fatiguing to me. I like the Avalons. To each his own. There’s room in the world for all kinds of listeners and speakers. The idea that there is a “best” speaker, or any audio component for that matter, is ridiculous on its face.
