The Amarra Room

Sonic Studios was at CES demo-ing its Amarra audio playback software. Switching back and forth between the playback engine in iTunes and Amarra left little doubt that Amarra was superior. I had not realized it before, but Amarra has sophisticated EQ software built in which can be used for room correction. It can be used independent of Sonic Studio’s DSP DAC OEMed from Metric Halo. The 24/96 version is $395 and the 24/192 version is $995. Although they were considering a Windows version at the time of the Computer Audiophile symposium, they have now decided to code only for the Mac. Reading the audio file into a large buffer before playback is a feature they are still working on implementing.
