Bill McKiegan, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, was very excited to show me Krell’s new Evolution 555 Blu-ray player ($15,000). It is a ground-up design. They didn’t just throw an Oppo in a fancy box and jack up the price.
Another new product was the Evolution 302e watts/channel stereo power amplifier ($12,500) which I first saw at AXPONA in March. The “e” tacked on the end of the model number means it is environmentally friendly. Krell now employs a user-selectable standby circuit which drops the power draw when not in use from 370 watts to 2 watts.
Other new environmentally aware amplifiers include:
Evolution 400e 400 watt monoblocks ($23,000/pair)
Evolution 600e 600 watt monoblocks ($37,000/pair)
Evolution 900e 900 watt monoblocks ($50,000/pair)
Evolution 402e 400 watts/channel stereo amplifier ($18,500)
Evolution 403e 400 watts/channel three channel amplifier ($25,000)
If you are going for big Krell amps for your home theater, you’ll also want the Evolution 707 surround sound processor ($30,000). It’s sure to get the update to HDMI 1.4 soon.
For a more modest home theater, the S1200 surround sound processor ($10,000) is just the ticket. It is shown here with the S1500 multi-channel amplifier which can be configured with five, six, or seven channels of 150 watts/channel amplification ($6,000, $6,500 and $7,000, respectively).
For your two-channel system, you might want to consider the S300i 150 watts/channel integrated amplifier ($2,500) and the S350 SACD player ($2,500).
Regardless of how you feel about Dan D’Agostino’s departure, I don’t think there has ever been a better time to buy Krell.
