Robert E. Green has posted a review of the Amphion Krypton 3 loudspeakers ($19,900/pair) at AVGuide. His conclusions”
“The Krypton 3s really are spectacular: remarkable indeed in their spatial presentation, superb in perceived resolution, ultra-low in distortion even at enormous volumes (they will play loud!), and almost completely free of coloration arising from off-axis irregularities. It all adds up to remarkably realistic sound. And if they do not quite produce the nearly absolutely correct tonal character that a few other speakers can offer, well, you may find that easy to forgive, given what they do. And they DSP-correct a treat into something really impressive, a quite startling reproducer of what is really there on the recordings.
This speaker design embodies ideas that have to my mind and ears a fundamental correctness in their ability to take the listening room out of the system. This has been the main goal of speaker design, at least as I see it, for a long time. Other speakers have made big steps in this direction, too, among them Gradient’s designs and the Steinway Lyngdorf system I recently reviewed, for examples. The Krypton 3s joins this honor roll of designs that really address the problem of the room around them, and address it with remarkable success. And what more can I say? I had a great time listening to the Krypton 3s.”
