The Bamberg Audio, Modwright Instruments and Soundstring Room

Bamberg Audio showed it Series 5 TMW loudpeakers to good effect with Modwright Instruments electronics. I first heard this combination at RMAF 2009 and was impressed with the construction and sound quality of both companies’ products. That good impression was reinforced after auditioning this room.

Modwright’s 84 pound KWA150s ($5995) can be configured as either a stereo amplifier providing 150 watts/channel or as a 450 watt monoblock. Power supply capacitance reserves are 216,000uF.

The source was a Squeezebox Transporter modified by Modwright to included both a tube rectified power supply and a tube output stage. They call it the Transporter Truth.

A Modwright LS 36.5 tube linestage ($4995) controlled the volume.

Cables supplied by Soundstring from their new Platinum line which will not be available for another 60-90 days.

Bamberg also auditioned its Series 2 TMM speakers ($3995), this time paired with a Modwright KWA100 100 watts/channel stereo amplifier ($3295). The Modwright LS 36.5 tube linestage ($4995) is again called upon for switching and volume control. Discs were spun with a Oppo BDP-83 for which Modwright also provides modification services.

Cables were provided from Soundstring’s current Gold line.
