The Ayre and Vandersteen Room

Ayre had a spacious suite where it paired its new top of the line VX-R stereo amplifier in black finish ($14,950) (left center) with bright blue Vandersteen Model Seven loudspeakers ($45,000). Right center is an Ayre L-5xe AC power filter and distributor ($1500).

All those cables lead over to an Ayre KX-R preamplifier ($18,500) (top) and DX-5 universal Blu-ray player ($9950) (bottom).

Spinning vinyl was accomplished with a dps/Ayre turntable and dps tonearm (together ($12,500) with Benz LP cartridge ($5000) mated with the Ayre P-5xe phono stage ($2500) (not shown).

At the other end of the economic scale, Ayre’s entry level components are the CX-7eMP CD player ($3500) (top) and AX-7e integrated amplifier ($3500) (bottom).

Somewhere in the middle lies the Ayre 5-Series line of components. Shown top to bottom are the K-5xeMP preamplifier ($3500), L-5xe AC power filter and distributor ($1500), and V-5xe power amplifier ($4950).

Continuing with the 5-Series, from top to bottom are the P-5xe phono preamplifier ($2500), the DX-5 universal Blu-ray player ($9950), and the C-5xeMP CD/SACD player ($5950).

Ayre’s latest offering is the new QA-9 analog to digital converter ($3950 plus $800 for the optional word clock board). It is clear from the typo in the name, this is a prototype model.

Here’s what the QA-9 looks like inside:

Except for the missing volume control, the QB-9 USB DAC ($2750) looks identical to the QB-9. It has been upgraded to 24/192.
